Painted using colour blocking, 'Seven' incorporates torn vintage newspaper, layers of sanded down colour and glass beads. This larger work represents the value of aging and the inherent beauty of complex individuals . Inspired by print media and the exterior of grand buildings of the past, this gallery wrapped canvas was painted in an intuitive, abstract style.

As a painter, I live out my belief that art is about creation as opposed to imitation and work from my raw emotion as opposed to within a representational form of expression. Colour field painting and abstract expressionism influence my work. I expose layers of paint, plaster, and found paper with my brush, palette knife and a sander. The paintings symbolize the complex layers of our selves, made up of our varied and individual experiences. As humans we want to be viewed in our entirety as Aristotle said, “ The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” In our entirety, even with our scars and flaws, we can be quite beautiful.
