Shadows on the Shore was painted on return from a month's residency in Shetland in August 2019. I was inspired by the colours of the coast - the dark peat covered hills and white sandy beaches against the crystal clear sea. We could experience four seasons in a day and I have tried to capture this in my sky. I also wanted to capture the feeling of space and isolation that I felt on Shetland along with the magical quality of the light. This painting is on a cradled board and is ready to hang.

Maggie is a contemporary landscape artist, inspired mainly by the coast and the light. She describes herself as essentially a landscape painter who likes to work in a slightly abstracted fashion while still retaining a sense of place. Her evocative paintings capture a sense of being in the landscape. Light and a sense of the fragility and transience of the natural landscape is important to her. Painting for Maggie is all about capturing the moment and recording the feeling of sitting on a beach on a stormy day, watching the waves crash, listening to the sounds around her, catching the light reflecting off the wet sands and the distant headlands. Her paintings are about the experience of being in that landscape. The art critic Bomberg once said : “Don’t paint what you see in front of you but paint what you feel around you” Maggie has a Fine Art degree from the University of Chichester and won the Cornwall Life Landscape Painter of the Year in 2016. Maggie has exhibited widely and her work is held in private collections around the world. In August 2019 Maggie undertook an artist residency in Shetland. Maggie was shortlisted for the Artist of the Year 2018 at the Mall Galleries in London and has also exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours at the Mall.
