'Shatter' is a fine art painting on canvas breaking through a wood panel that is collaged with vintage comic book covers. The printed images are a historical record of the depictions of women in comic culture. Upper left the women are pinned to targets, pressed into embrace and being carried off against their will.Their is a dramatic transformation and empowerment enabling the women towards the bottom right to recapture their strength and autonomy. The Comic Culture series asserts that we will not be defined or contained by the narrative written by others.

Victoria Selbach is a contemporary artist focusing on women and is best known for her compelling life-size nude depictions of women. Selbach explores the complexity of her contemporaries in relation to our generational feminine legacy. Born in Pittsburgh and a long time resident of New York, Selbach recently moved her studio to rural Connecticut.
