About The Artwork
This piece is inspired by the remains of a ship that wrecked off the Pacific coast. (No one died.) There isn't much left of the wreck now, but children love to play around it and adults appreciate the history it represents. I used oil paint, cold wax medium and a bit of collage over a ground of plaster on a wood panel. I added lots of layers and texture, using a variety of tools to incise and pull back the paint. To me, shipwrecks can represent loss, but there is a strange beauty about them as well.
