About The Artwork

For many years I have been painting figurative artwork depicting group of figures - men and women and more recent also animals, known to my art followers as 'party scenes'. After my move to UK I wanted to try something new. I have decided one day I want to paint one isolated figure only. 'Shoulder Bacon' was a creation of this thought. It was a start of the 'Chefs' series.

Gerard Byrne has developed a reputation as one of the Ireland’s leading contemporary painters. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries in Dublin, London and Brighton, UK where he currently lives. His extensive collection of work represents a great scope of versatility. He captures the impressions of nature, architecture and industrial landscape. When living in Dublin, he became almost inseparable with the docklands, were he was spending most of his time with large canvases (some over six feet high), and sometimes against changing weather conditions capturing the quintessential atmosphere of decay and regeneration. He is also well known for his stunning floral pieces and large extravagant figurative works where he presents a human figure, or even an animal figure, in which he dares to delve into the mind of the spectator. Although Gerrard’s artistic talent had been recognised from an early age, only in his early thirties he decided to devote himself solely to painting. He began painting professionally first in Berlin, then New York after which he eventually returned to his Dublin. In the early 2000s he bought a house in Dalkey, which was soon to become The Art House, a famous art home, where music nights, poetry readings, classical music events, jazz concerts would complement his life as a painter. In 2016, for the first time Gerrard participated in the international Pintar Rapido plein air painting competitions where, in London, he won the 2nd prize. The sheer scale and powerful depictions presented within his works have made him one of the most exciting figurative artists on the contemporary scene in Ireland today. Gerard Byrne was born in Dublin in 1958. Paintings by Gerard are to be found in the Irish Government’s Art Collections and in numerous commercial and private collections across Europe, in the UK, America, Australia, New Zealand and China. more info at my wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerard_Byrne_(painter)
