"One day, I witnessed a gibbon, who had lived thinking it was a human, experience a profound sense of loss upon seeing its own kind for the first time. People empathize with the gibbon's experience, as they too face psychological setbacks when confronting the direct realities of society, experiencing a disparity between reality and ideals. The jungle is teeming with vitality, yet it harbors intense survival instincts among animals. Similarly, human society serves as a place where the desire for success in life can be realized, but it is also marked by relentless competition. Since competition is an inherent element of life, we encounter fears stemming from change and growth in both significant and mundane aspects of our daily lives. The monkey depicted in my painting represents a modernized figure, akin to a human, facing fears not by avoiding them, but by confronting and growing from them. If the monkey in my earlier works revealed fear and curiosity, unable to venture outside, now the gibbon in my imagination takes its first steps beyond ordinary days, breaking free from the fears and entering a new world."
