About The Artwork

In the painting "Pancake week" depicts the traditional festivities in Russia! In the folk calendar of the Eastern Slavs the holiday marks the border between winter and spring. This is the most fun and satisfying folk holiday. Traditionally, Shrovetide week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday with a spectacular burning of an effigy. Every day of this holiday is unique and filled with deep meaning. Each of them has its own name and rituals that must be performed. The painting participated in the exhibition London.

Yulia Belasla was born in 1987 in the city of Barnaul, Altaiskiy Kray, Russia. When she was still a baby her parents moved to the city of Kemerovo, in Siberia, where she had grown up. Since 2017 she has been living in Moscow, Russia. Since her childhood, Yulia was attracted to painting. Private lessons, various courses, and art school only warmed up her interest. Finally, Yulia Belasla has graduated from the Kemerovo State University of Culture and Arts, as a graphic designer. She had studied there both classical painting and drawing, as well as the form’s stylization. 2013-2017 she had a frame shop where she worked as a decorative artist in Kemerovo, offered picture frames and a passionate taught of adults and children to painting. In 2017 she closed her a frame shop. Today, her time is entirely dedicated to producing art and she gives art master classes. Artist’s Statement In my practice, I work with painting, exploring themes: love, human relationships, Slavic traditions and information technology. I work in traditional media, using oil, acrylic, watercolor, and golden potali. The inner volume of the paintings is achieved only on the contrast of cold and warm color palettes. Otherwise, I avoid feeling the depth of space, turning the composition to ornamental correspondence or icon painting practice. The symbolic structure of the structure of objects and characters and the addition of decorative elements to the space: a reference to ancient cultural codes and sign systems. The two main genres of my works are subject painting and portraits. I combine mythology, legends and assemble them into an anthropomorphic image. It is read through signs sewn into the perceptions of each person. In my opinion, emotions are the brightest color of the universe, a universal language understandable to everyone. I've always been interested in how people are emotionally connected to each other. The interaction of these connections forms my approach to developing themes within paintings.
