About The Artwork
______________ The work was inspired by memories and memories of expectations. The work is the exploration of the self and the other by creating a hybrid of the personal and the universal. The painting contains embedded imagery that builds on the portrait through its juxtaposition. I aimed to create a platform to investigate our place within the wider cultural and emotional landscape through overlapping and mirrored layers forming atmospheric portraits and landscapes that intentionally evoke sensations of memory recollection and internal evolution. I used a photo of my daughter staring out the window in Venice, Italy, and one of my favorite paintings, Susanna and her Elders by Artemesia Gentileschi as inspirtation.
