Tamara Teaksons´ work deals with a varietey of themes and subject matters. Most of these have always been about very serious issues but in recent years have become more diverse and sometimes even a little light-hearted. Teakson has been creating art about FGM (female genital mutilation) since the mid – 1990´s (the INEXPLICABLE series) and this and other forms of violence and pain, abuse remain recurring themes in her work. INEXPLICABLE I-III: INEXPLICABLE I: this was the artistic starting point and is mostly pen, ink and watercolour work. INEXPLICABLE II: is a slightly different visual approach, mostly paintings and is not just about FGM but also about pain, abuse, violence and vulnerability in general. INEXPLICABLE III: marks a new visual style, developed more recently. This style is also adopted in other work series and was inspired by a number of artists and art styles. BODY-BUILDINGS: combing and comparing anatomy and buildings. DROWNING: various, open to interpretation MONOLIKES: was started very recently is very different from previous approaches. It is not about a particular subject matter. The focus for this series is about the technique used to create the work. The title MONOLIKES comes from the word monoprinting. In monoprinting the printing plate is `inked up´ (ie paint is applied to the surface) and then removed in order to create the image which is then printed. This is the technique used to creating the paintings but in a more varied form. MONOLIKES is about anything - from serious to wacky or abstract stuff.
