Snow in May III is part three and the final artwork of a series of three paintings depicting the unusual snowfall in May 2021 in the UK. Snow in May III is loosely based on Helvellyn, a mountain in the Lake District. Helvellyn is the third highest point both in England and in the Lake District, the scenery includes three deep glacial coves and two sharp topped ridges on the eastern side. The Lake in the middle of the painting is a small lake called Red Tarn, It is high up on the eastern flank of Helvellyn, beneath Striding Edge and Catstye Cam. Red Tarn was formed when the glacier that carved out the eastern side of Helvellyn had melted. The lake along with three others in Lake District is a habitat for the very rare and endangered Schelly fish. This impressionistic and abstract landscape painting will be sold to the collector in a brown frame (please feel free to contact me if you have a personal preference as to the colour of the frame) and with a certificate of authenticity. The dominant colour in this abstract landscape artwork is blue; lake, phthalo, light phthalo blue, cerulean and Prussian. Throughout the painting the mountains and rocks were created with RGM palette knives, giving a textured feel and layers to the canvas.

I studied English Literature BA (Hons) at university and I went on to do a Creative Writing course with the Open University. This led me to becoming a writer of children’s books, in particular I enjoy creating picture books. Gradually the picture became my focus and I started to create an Illustrator’s portfolio. The subject matter I work with varies from representing shape and form to intricate details. I am fascinated with nature and its’ various forms, whether it be wild animals, the wilderness, the weather or our pets. These themes compel me to create art. I have a love and deep respect for nature in all its forms, I hope these feelings permeate into the drawings via my brush or pencil. Illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Alexis Deacon and writers such as Thoreau, Wordsworth, William Blake and George MacDonald inspire my artwork.
