South Chatham, August Painting

This is a late August scene of South Chatham road in Harwichport, MA. Osprey, egrets, crows, and many other bird species take refuge in the protected acreage known as the Harwichort Conservation Trust. The citizens of Harwichport pooled their resources to purchase acres of land from developers and preserve the natural wildlife habitat. This scene is part of the 448 acres that have been conserved by the town through land bids. I have been walking by this scene every summer for over 30 years and finally decided to capture it in paint. My family still holds on to our house purchased in the 1930's, and thanks to HCT the landscape has a flavor of what it used to be.
