"It got worse" acrylic, oil and marker on wood, 1990. Bergelin´s early works like "Speed Freak" he uses a primitive but hard line, expressing himself using automatism with a marker pen. - Living next to a building site back in 1990. I started to collect scrap wood, the size 48 by 48 inches became my first canvases when starting out my attempts to work with a surface, creating something that could evoke feelings or questions. Due to lack of funds the only alternative for me was using alternative materials. Comforting strong purple, blue and red colors, uncovers the messages that reach us, that are just beneath the surface of the picture "Speed Freak". The more you observe you finally arrive to message of the tribute to life, in most it´s intimate state.

Johan Bergelin, born in 1969. Have developed himself as an artist for over 35 years. His archive includes over 1000 works on various mediums like photography, paper, canvas, wood and pvc. 10 selected works will be available for sale at Saatchiart.com ranging from large scale canvas work, pvc and wood paintings, pastel drawings and photography. Bergelin's preferred technique, automatism, using simple, primitive lines and holding the pastels, pencils or brushes very gently. The picture's effect is a kind of "romantic symbolism". The more you observe the pictures the clearer you see the message of love. Finally you see that all are tributes to life in its ultimate state. A unconscious and very immediate way of creating pictures. With references from the streets but also both from Cobra and Artbrut movements. Colour references are often from the Fauvism, often with strong purple, red, black, yellow red shades. As an outsider, Bergelin have had no contact with the mainstream world of art or art institutions.
