About The Artwork
Working equitation has its roots in rural parts of Southern Europe with many elements directly related to working cattle, such as the garrocha - the long pole. In the sport of working equitation the garrocha is picked up from a barrel, before spearing a ring located on top of a simulated bull's back before returning the pole and hopefully the ring to another barrel. It demands skill and accuracy especially when done at speed. Its one of my favourite elements of the event, just for the difficulty. So naturally it was going to be a subject for me!

I love horses, and I love to paint them and more recently their riders too! I work out of a tiny space up on a Scottish hillside overlooking the Moray Firth and the mountains to the north. Its boiling in summer and freezing in winter. I've been around horses pretty much all of my life and been very lucky to have had a number of beautiful ones in my care. Being so close to them every day has given me an in depth awareness of their anatomy as well as their spirit.
