In 2014, I was pregnant, in love, and 40. One day, I found a small frog on my back porch. It had the most lovely gold eyes: reflective, wide, and explorative. I was suddenly compelled after so many years of being alone as a single mother to create something to express this next soul, this life growing within me and to memorialize this small spirit visiting. I had to paint it. I researched the mythology cross cultures. Frogs are seen as spirits of life, the circle, metamorphosis, fertility, joy, and rebirth. I wanted to encompass the joy this little frog and my new pregnancy, so late in my life, was creating within me spiritually. I hope to inspire joy and a gentle inspiration this little spirit gave me. Call me a hippie, but animals are curious and insightful in ways we are not. Slow down, and they give us hints on how to achieve a better existence through observations. I chose watercolors as my medium because I find discovery and exploration in it's ability to be both transparent and detailed. Watercolors truly inspire a need for decision but a willingness to accept change when even your best plans go astray. Life impromptu. So, what I want to paint or plan to paint, sketching aside, may not always come to fruition. I hope you enjoy my spring frog. Namaste.
