Stalemate Painting

Allison was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa but moved to the U.K. nearly ten years ago and currently resides in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Although she studied art at school she is, for the most part, self taught. Allison takes great pleasure in painting people, animals and scenes from the United Kingdom, as well as allowing herself to indulge in a little nostalgia on occasion and capture the warmth and beauty of her roots in Africa. A little bit rebellious and restless, she is continuously exploring new mediums and techniques. She has won a couple of ‘Highly Commended’ awards in recent years, in the annual TALP open competitions. Her work is on display at THAT Gallery in Basingstoke town centre alongside other local artists. Artist Statement. As an artist I find myself inspired by extremes: young and happy; old and broken; black and white; bright and colourful. These themes are reflected in much of my work, from expressionistic oils to evocative black and white work in both ink and oil, exploring deeper, more meaningful and thought provoking subjects.
