Stargazer 2014 is no longer stretched on a frame 65"x42" and will be shipped in a rolled in a tube. Stargazer 2014 34” x 58” acrylic on recycled canvas is part of my glow series. When I first started to show my work I joined a local art group called Untitled Nashville an all volunteer art organization who would put on 4 or 5 pop up shows a year. One show a year was the Glow (black light theme) show. Every year I entered I used a different material such as gaffers tape, zip ties, test tube shot glasses and string. After seeing some of art in another show at the gallery the owner of the Main Street Gallery suggested we do an all black light show. So we planned a Benefit “Gleam, An Illuminated Art Show” for the Nashville Classical Charter School using my black lights artworks. I also made hand painted black light masks for people to buy and wear.

I have come to a realization about myself and my art. I am impatient and I have need for instant gratification. I get frustrated with time consuming traditional techniques and want to skip ahead to the end. These are the reasons that I am a series artist. I like to experiment with an idea or a technique until I am satisfied with the result. The inspiration for my work is in trying the new techniques. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art. My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames and using centrifugal force and gravity to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
