About The Artwork

In this era of social media, we are we are inundated in a world where we are only showing the beautiful facade on the outside and hiding the cracks and flaws beneath the surface. We see the perfect lives of others and value is placed on perfection in every area of our lives, perfection is currency. We have to have the perfect looks, body, home, clothes, cars and even children. We create an illusion of flawlessness and feel we cannot show our cracks for fear of being rejected. With this unattainable standard we have put our planet in flux. We are attached to material possessions and the more we get the more we want. We are never satisfied and have an addiction to filling this hole in our lives. This show is about letting go the need for perfection and embracing your perfectly imperfect self. It’s about showing up as you are, warts and all. It’s about realizing that your flaws are not only beautiful but are an asset. This series crosses the line between figuration and abstraction. I am curious about color found in nature and color relationships. I mix my own tints to achieve the hue I am inspired by. The organic nature of the raw canvas creates an ethereal quality to make each painting different and unique.

“As a visual artist, I am primarily interested in process and experimentation. This comes from an inclination to try a lot of different mediums to satiate my curiosity. I did not have a formal art school education and as a result I have never bound myself with a set “rules” for being consistent in how I put my art out in the world. I continuously dabble and try different styles and mediums but at the heart of all of it is a desire to connect with my viewer and to tell a story of human oneness.” “Practicing art is a pathway for me into the spiritual realm. Nature brings me closer to the divine and is the entry point I cross when working on my paintings. Painting allows me to explore the wonder and awe I observe in nature by using abstract imagery of the natural world through texture, shape, color, and light to communicate my sense of connection to the universe.”" Born in South Africa and raised in Canada, Suzie Jellinek is a contemporary abstract painter. After attending FIT in New York with a successful career in Fashion, Suzie decided to pursue her passion for painting full time. She is influenced by nature, travel and Mid-Century Modern painters and the Impressionists. She is curious about the relationship to different colors found in nature and how they play off each other. She plays with color, texture, shape, and pattern and is inspired by her own interpretation of the natural world around her. She resides in Connecticut with her family. Her work has been placed in both private and public collections . She has also had a collaboration with Restoration Hardware and General Public Art. Most recently, one of her paintings was hung at a public space in Darien CT.
