This still life was painted on a 16 by 20 canvas and is ready for framing. I used the highest quality oil paints and glazing mediums to achieve the highest depth and brightness of color. Many layers of different oil colors were applied to a gray and white value foundation layer. It took weeks, since each layer needed to dry before applying the next one.I was inspired by the masters of the past who used glazing techniques to achieve vivid color and depth. I chose objects for my still life that were earthy and related to warm orange, crimson and ocher. I contrasted these colors with the green gourd and the bright yellow cup. I would like viewers to feel the warmth and serenity of the colors and glazing style. I also hope this painting will make them think of the traditional glazing painting achieved from our Dutch, French, Italian and other Masters of Art who painted in this style. As one applies one glaze of oil color over another, the artist is often surprised at the richness and depth of the colors achieved using this method. It is very satisfying.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia and have one sister. As a child I focused more on my music education and received piano lessons from a very early age. I still enjoy playing. My true art education began in my thirties when I began taking drawing, pastel and oil painting lessons. I took many lessons and tried many different mediums focusing on watercolors and oils. No my husband and I live in Bryn Mawr. I taught English and Reading for many years and always had students incorporate art into their projects. I have four sons, 5 grandsons and 2 granddaughters and another due soon. My life revolves around my family, my art painting and my music-- and I enjoy cooking too.
