About The Artwork

Even though I live in 21st century, I live in the past. Most likely in the 19th and the beginning of 20th centuries. Thus are my works. They are not from these times. I imagine my paintings hanging at salons. If you run one, you might be interested at my works.

Mykolas' path to painting is unconventional, much like his own personality. In a search of his creative vision, Mykolas did study feshen and dressmaking, and painting in Vilnius Art Academy among others. He became a painter relatively lately, but has already created works worthy of attention. What makes Mykolas' paintings interesting? He boldly experiments, engages in artistic adventurism, and is not afraid of influences. At the same time, he does not try to squeeze himself into any recognizable, uniform style. In the broader context of the art world, Mykolas' painting is similar to German Expressionism of the first half of the last century, characterized by open, dramatic color and abstract, dynamic, and expressive drawing and composition. Sometimes his paintings approach the stylistics of later Abstract Expressionism and have connections with the "new wild" streams of Italians, Germans, and Austrians that emerged in the 1980s as an opposition to the disability of postmodernist art, conceptual sterility, and the burial of painting as such. Vivid color combinations, spontaneous composition, and psychological impact are the most prominent features of Mykolas' painting. Intriguing abstractions catch the eye and arouse thought, but there are also excellent still lifes and portraits - the latter particularly impressive and distinguished by their original artistic expression. The author does not copy the sitter but creates a psychological mood and dramatic character. It is easy to see that the dominant colors - red and blue - which create a coloristic tension in the paintings, seem to repeat the existential tension of physics and metaphysics felt by every sensitive soul and more thoughtful person. Therefore, in all his paintings, regardless of their plot, the prominent role of the artist cannot be ignored - his signature is impossible to miss. At this point, we must leave the interpretation to the viewer - "are we creating ourselves through the world or the world through us"? Or perhaps art is primarily characterized by how this junction is expressed in creativity? In this sense, Mykolas' personality is inseparable from his creative work - to create oneself and one's vision of the world through art, and at the same time invite the viewer to immerse themselves in a different perception of the world's forms.
