About The Artwork

Painting: Mixed Media on Paper. Part of a series of contemporary, abstract landscape paintings created during my visit to Boolakeel Cove - situated in the Iveragh Peninsula on the wild Atlantic coast of Ireland. Inspired by it's dark and atmospheric winter scenery that prevails during the winter months, with huge waves crashing onto the dark, barren, rugged, rocky cliffs with its' ever changing magical silver light reflecting on the land. Combining indigenous found material with non-conventional mediums like bitumen, slate dust, soot, peat ash, inks, tempera and graphite to paint with in order to reflect the colours of the location with its raw, unspoilt, natural beauty.

Bina is a London based visual artist, printmaker and ceramist. She translates her endless source of inspiration from natural and urban environments through textures, colour , pattern in the sequences of seasons, often focusing on small details employing a close relationship with mediums: painting with oil and cold wax medium, printmaking, ceramics and often mixing materials and methods which become a dominant driver in her work. She prefers to use hard surfaces which allow her to use a more diverse range of materials, tools and techniques to create textures and reveal undertones. Her works evolves as a result of experimenting with different materials and techniques, which leads to unexpected discoveries and an uncertain resonance to explore and develop further. Through a process of continual layering, building, etching, abrasion and deconstruction, incorporating indigenous materials, a surface is established and the resulting image is often ambiguous, challenging perception of the viewer to find their own definition and narrative or may at times echo memories of a place evoking an emotional response. Her work conveys a sense of contemplative abstract familiarity.
