A man is reading about the painting that he is a part of. We can see people busy preparing for something through a window in the next building. The deliberate confusion should cause conjecture and therefore create more stories. The idea arose from a photograph I took from a hotel window in Paris that looked out to a commercial kitchen.

Balancing these two styles in one painting has become one of the things that I enjoy about making art. I allow myself allusions to the surreal, but without any intentional symbolism – details that you might imagine from the corner of your eye. A reviewer once described my artwork as questioning reality. I sometimes find joy in using confusion as an artistic tool to raise considerations about how we remember things
