About The Artwork

The background has been painted with raw pigments and lineseed oil, in order to make its expression as raw as possible. The figure has been sketched with similar colours, blending into the background and let it seemingly appear, or disappear. The figure is silently looking at the viewer, naked, only her arms protecting her chest. She seems to confront the viewer with something, maybe even trying to remind him. She could be standing in a dark room, or a forest, where a light source is shining on her, suggesting that there is something hidden, that wants to come to the surface.

I'm a young female painter from Germany, who solely focusses on traditional painting, exclusively with raw pigments and oil on materials such as canvas, paper, wood and cork. My style is a symbiosis of abstract and figurative painting, my technique swings between academic disciplin and abstract freedom, in order to seek a way of painting, that is as raw, immediate, spontaneous and natural as possible. I'm working on a series called "The Nameless Portraits", where I strike to paint a portrait that is as anonymous and universal as possible, so that they can speak to anyone. All my portraits and nature drawings are studies, sometimes just staying in the stage of sketches. I wish to be able to directly communicate with the viewer, and hope to meet him in a silent, private, natural space. My figures usually seem to be appearing or disappearing, or being caught in a moment of contemplation and silence. Therefor I do a lot of studies from nature. I'm especially interested in "how to capture an appearance" and in finding my own way in depicting "the truth". The depicted drop all their guards for the viewer, encouraging the viewer to drop its own guards for just a moment. They want to reach a state of freedom, naturalness, simplicity and intimacy. They exist in a time and space where there is no society as we know it today, and ask the viewer about what is left, when all our outer structures do not function anymore or are fallen apart. They also question the viewers about themes in their lifes that are happening, right now.
