About The Artwork

There is something majestically beautiful in the old roots. Something timeless. This work is part of series of paintings, what I named "Roots". I've started this series of works in February 2020, just at the beginning of the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. My studio is located away from the city, above the lake, surrounded by gardens, in winter it is very quiet around ... my only neighbors are garden cats and birds. In Lithuania, winter sky is low and almost all the time gray, the trees are bare and almost black; everything around becomes monochrome, which, combined with the surrounding silence and loneliness, affects the perception of reality. Everything around sounds in the rhythm of "Air for G String" by Bach, and tune in to thoughts of the infinite. This is how a series of works, which I called “Roots”, began and it continues to be replenished with new works.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999.
