ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Abstract acrylic on Canvas This piece explores the subtle energy of personal relationships. There is always the obvious activity going on above the surface. And then there is also the more subtle activity that goes on beneath the surface of things: things that go unsaid; feelings that are not expressed; desires that are unknown. To express this subtle energy, I show the thin pink color strokes within the stronger white strokes. As in each painting I create, each stroke and color choice was made with an approach of understanding the world as wabi-sabi, perfectly imperfect. It is one in a series of Wabi-Sabi paintings I'm making with this theme of accepting life as it is, in each perfectly imperfect state and finding peace in that acceptance.

Born in Mexico City and raised in Southern California, Jennifer Lynne Gildred grew up to have a deep appreciation for the ocean, making art, and spending as much time in the natural world as she could. In 1986, she attended The SCAD Arts program in France, then under the Cleveland Institute of Art. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Art in Fine Art from The University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Art in Psychology/Art Therapy from Sonoma State University. Gildred has traveled around the world and has gained a broad perspective of the human palette. She has shown her work in various locations globally, but primarily in California. A retired art therapist, she can be found painting in her home art studio in Sonoma County, CA.
