About The Artwork

Painting on canvas with acrylic and vinyl paint with lots of material. Many successive layers, overlays, transparencies and mixtures of materials for an abstract painting that also turns out to be a landscape. The tools used are varied, in addition to brushes with broad strokes, the fresh paint was also scratched with the brush handle to reveal the lower layers, giving extra depth to the composition, as well as drops that give a fluid look and thick matter (up to to about half a centimeter). Happy and contemplative expression with a great color nuance from light to dark tones. This canvas was painted over several years, the first layer dates from around 2003-2004, started in one of my studios in the Rhine valley near Strasbourg and finished in Berlin in 2010. In this painting I transferred impressions from canoeing on the great lakes in Sweden.

Etienne Pixa is a versatile self-taught artist and graphic designer who has developed his skills in a variety of mediums over the years: photography, painting and drawing, using physical matter and digital techniques. Etienne's sources of inspiration are varied: nature and all kind of landscape, but also scenes of everyday life in the city. Also, work experiences in very varied environments and very different social categories, provide a source of inspiration. His paintings are in private collections in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece and South Korea. Etienne's interest in the arts was sparked early on by his grandfather, who was a painter, draftsman and graphic designer. He spent countless hours poring over his grandfather's art books, which inspired him to pursue his own artistic endeavors. After studying advertising graphics, he began experimenting with painting on canvas, exploring the expressive possibilities of acrylic and oil paint. In Strasbourg he was fortunate to have Suzanne Obrecht, an experienced painter as a mentor, who provided invaluable advice and feedback on his work. Then settling in Berlin, Etienne continued his artistic training by taking courses with the artist Frank Pieperhoff. He has since expanded his artistic repertoire to include digital painting, exploring different modes of expression in graphic arts. In addition to his work as an artist, Etienne is also a musician, he plays the guitar and explores the world of improvisation. He has also participated in many film projects, both as an extra for series for Netflix, or also for directors such as Steven Spielberg, Duncan Jones, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck or German artist and filmmaker Julian Rosefeldt. He also participated in the production of several short films as a cameraman.
