ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Sugar and Spice, oil and acrylic on canvas, 120 x 200 x 2 cm on two canvas panels each measuring 120 x 100 x 2 cm (Diptych). Sugar and Spice and all things nice, Wild flowers dancing on a summer breeze. Scattered in the wind these flowers scream their joy, their defiance, their sweet and boisterous beauty. Sugar and Spice. I adore wildflowers. Not for me preened and pampered gardens, I love those flowers which flourish in the most inhospitable areas and refuse to be subdued. I want to be like those wildflowers. Unapologetic, proud to be and daring to be different. Created in an expressionist manner with dripped and thrown paint, Sugar and Spice is an abundance of texture and movement which suggests a wildflower hillside. The flowers are bold and vivid in colour and appear to dance upon the wind. Gold flashes of paint emerge from the undergrowth adding depth and dimension to the artwork while dark black leaves create drama and add a focal point to the artwork. Sugar and Spice is ready to hang
