Mark The Supply Teacher Painting

Contemporary portrait painting rendered in thick oil paint on wooden board. The work depicts a teacher called Mark. The title is "Mark the Supply Teacher". The sitter, a friend of mine came and sat after school. Often tired at the end of the day but happy to sit for a friend the painting evolved over time. I repainted it many times, feeling the painting was too pretty at first. In the end there’s a kind of tiredness to the portrait but also alertness in the eyes. He reminds me of an old geography teacher, who always wore the same jacket and tie, similar to what you see in the painting.
