About The Artwork
Inspiration came from watching the surfers riding the Atlantic waves on Porthmeor Beach, St Ives. Starting with a Plein air study this was originally worked up into a large format with multiple surfers and boards in 2016 and exhibited that year. In 2017 I decided to rework it into an abstracted expressive form, having been influenced by the work of Gerhardt Richter. The final result is a multiple layer of colour crashing and breaking like a wave, with at least one surfer visible! I hope viewers will enjoy exploring the mark making, colours, and the motion of the piece. This piece is in Acrylic due to its ease of use, rapid drying and receptiveness to mark making.
