About The Artwork

I was lucky enough to up on a farm surrounded by animals and fields, including cows, pigs, sheep and poultry. Sheep have such gentle faces and I have tried to capture this softness in my painting "Swaledale". I love the curly, textured horns and distinct black and white colouring on the face. Swaledales are known for being a bold and hardy sheep, having to endure tough conditions of the hills and lowlands, of Yorkshire and beyond. Thir wool is coarse and tough, perfect for making carpets. This ram is set against a blue and black background with flecks of pink. I didnt want to create a photo realistic piece but instead an impression of a sheep, enjoying all the different textures in his coat, face and horns through paint.

I was born in Wrexham and grew up on a sheep and dairy farm in the pretty Welsh borders. I work from a beautiful studio in the picturesque location of Erbistock. I had a formal art training and after graduating I moved to Stockholm, Sweden looking after two young children. On my return after a variety of jobs, I started working with Dunoon Ceramics producing coffee mug designs which sell all around the world. I have received various awards for my designs on tableware. My paintings are created out of my passion for art, colour, animals and pattern. They speak for me in a language of their own without the use of words. I tend to work in acrylics and water based paint. I often work in a sporadic and spontaneous way applying paint quickly. I want my paintings to inspire joy, beauty and happiness and like music I hope they soothe the soul. My favourite artists include, David Hockney, Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, LS Lowry, Edgar Degas, Mark Rothko and Canaletto.
