During a natural history project, I became interested in trees, and the structure of the large solid trunk being fed by the small multiple layered foliage, and the negative spaces between the wooden elements. This old sweet chestnut had a very interesting geometry, and spread for metres in all directions. The top right hand quarter seemed like a stained glass window of light and pattern; the trunk solid and gnarled from decades of growth. It seemed to come alive as I painted it, and take on an energy of its own.

The painting is unframed, and would be shipped flat between thick cardboard, as the paint is quite thick in places. I can supply it framed if requested, with the framing charged at cost to the customer.

I am an Australian Interior Designer and painter living in London UK. I believe we are put on this planet to look after each other, including strangers. I make art to have a conversation with people I will never meet, to find a connection between our experiences that reflects our common humanity. I live in an age when the earth faces an existential, environmental and humanitarian crisis through climate change, and art is the way I represent my time and place, to respond emotionally and convey the urgency of the need to become carbon neutral.
