Who or what inspired this work? Sort of a difficult question on this piece...Partially the story of John Basilone, a Marine Corps hero of Guadalcanal during WWII; a teeny bit autobiographical; and a large portion fantasy. I hope this painting's viewers will also feel the story of a young man's going off to war in the early 1940's.
