In Memory of a life Once Lived Painting

This work is one of a series of works I embarked on following the tragic death of my husband, in a cliff fall, whilst out taking photos. At the time I no longer felt able to continue with the seascapes that I am generally known for. The circumstances of his death meant I no longer felt the same joy about producing works related to the coast. I needed to find a freer method of expression whilst I tried to rebuild my life. The method I use is a very intuitive process of working involving painting and printing with acrylic onto calico. Then cutting and in a way destroying the work before reconstructing it using machine stitch. This process of painting, printing, cutting and reconstruction is repeated until I feel that piece is resolved. This method of working is a kind of therapy for me as I try to work through my thoughts and process the trauma of what has happened. I hope that others who view the work will look at it in their own individual way, see what they see in it and find their own interpretation.
