About The Artwork
The USA has taken on the atmosphere of a car accident - something that we just can’t help but look at. Divisiveness, anger, turmoil…everything is upside down, back to front. I have simply tried to capture that atmosphere, that moment. The iconic Route 66 crosses America and divides it, the horizon curves up instead of down, the wild ride of the rodeo and in the lower left of the painting it reads, “OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR” - a statement that often appears on a car’s rearview mirror. This gives a sense of looking backwards but in this current environment of contradiction - are we moving towards it or away from it?
