About The Artwork

The painting is painted on cotton canvas with a density of 300 g/sq.m. Subframe made of softwood. Acrylic primer, factory made. The ends are primed, but not painted. The painting has no frame or hangers. Hangers can be easily installed upon request. The color scheme is dominated by dark and cold tones of various shades of the blue spectrum, which are characteristic of thunderclouds and water. Warm shades of the glow and its reflection in the water create a feeling of the sun. The general feeling of anxiety and anticipation of a storm and, at the same time, the viewer’s security creates tension, so characteristic of thunderstorm landscapes. A palette knife was actively used for applying paint, especially at the first stage (underpainting). Further elaboration of details and generalization was carried out with a brush (glaze). The painting was created from my own photograph. I lived for a long time on the shore of the large lake Shartash near Yekaterinburg, Russia. Due to its size, this lake significantly influenced the local weather. Over the course of a long time I took many pictures of the various conditions of this lake. It often became the main character of paintings. The photo, taken during an approaching thunderstorm, incomparably expresses the clash of the uncontrollable forces of nature. A huge thundercloud seems to hug the lake, unable to completely cover it. The high sun barely breaks through the dark bulk of the storm front, simultaneously lighting a warm dawn on the horizon where the big city is located. Bands of rain are already lashing over the city with might and main, and the opposite shore of the lake is still untouched by rain. Even the fishermen have not yet directed their boats to the shore. The storm is still “threatening”!

I am a freelance artist, sculptor and designer. Presently I live constantly in Bulgaria. In my work I express the interaction between man and nature. I design art because it is a significant part of human existence and world culture, and I feel the need to contribute to the arts.
