About The Artwork

This painting explores how the monarchy lives off the fat of the lands that were pillaged by the great empire. Drinking tea is an every day occurrence in the UK, but few would give a second thought as to how this commodity is sourced, what price is paid by the country of origin, and who ultimately benefits.

I have lived in the New Forest, UK, for the past 35 years, but spent my childhood through to my twenties travelling the world with my family. This experience had a long-lasting effect on my world-view, and on how I translate that through my creativity. It is said that great art is concerned with moral imperfections; this is a statement that resonates with me strongly, and with this in mind I find more and more I have to convey meaning in what I paint, and examine how I translate my interpretation of what we are currently experiencing in this world of change, uncertainty, corruption, beauty and love - a veritable melting pot of emotions and chaos. I came to painting late in life, having only really picked up a brush about 10 years ago. My life has been one of creativity coming from a background in publishing and writing, but to me there is no better expression than that of image and colour, no other medium can better convey the turbulent mood and temperament of the times in which we live. The landscape that society offers up is one that is so dynamic, colourful and radiant that at times it is almost impossible to grapple with the creative juices and decide which way to go. I have humbled myself to this great world and tried my best to reflect my own personal thoughts through this medium, which I hope you will enjoy viewing as much as I have enjoyed creating Member of: New Forest Arts Society, Hampshire Arty Paints, Hampshire
