Tear Painting

Laumee Fries is a German-based artist and author who writes stories and creates paintings, drawings, and textile art of imaginary people with charcoal earth pigments soy and fibre. After a tumultuous early life, she studied art and stage design in Berlin and received a degree in media design. In 2018, she had a severe sepsis. Coma and a months-long paralysis changed her perspective on life dramatically – and her art as well. Laumee is deeply influenced by the compelling works of Niki de Saint Phalle and Louise Bourgeois, and the playful machines of Jean Tinguely. She also draws huge inspiration from Andrey Tarkovsky’s poetic cinema, Punk, Zen, and Celtic mythology. Her works were shown in exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and France. She lives and works as a freelance writer and visual artist near Cologne in Germany.
