"Tend to The Garden of Your Mind" was inspired by the Buddhist teaching of Right Speech. The woman surrounded by the snake brings forth the concept of having agency over oneself and one’s words. At first glance, the figure appears to be enveloped by the huge creature, yet she seems in control of both of them as she holds its head in a symbol of defiance and strength. The arch of branches surrounding the painting evokes scary childhood fairytale forests with the promise of something soothing and safe beyond. "Tend to The Garden of Your Mind" is from the series, “Untangling Our Roots”, which explores the evolution from childhood beliefs and cultural influences to developing a unique path and voice as an adult. Each painting in the series addresses a different universal struggle and is infused with a solitary figure, enigmatic nature as a healing and guiding force, and/or spiritual and cultural symbolism. This series strives to embody mystery, beauty, exploration, and discovery. My watercolor paintings are created using only professional grade paints, paper, and framing materials. Because the paintings are protected with matte varnish spray and cold wax medium, there is no need for intrusive glass or acrylic as a barrier between the viewer and the artwork. This diptych (2-piece) painting is an original watercolor mounted on cradleboard, sealed with archival cold wax medium, and framed with a custom black, wood frame.
