About The Artwork

The paintings are screaming and shouting. They beheaded figures and terrorists also. They can be interpreted as terrorists who are hiding behind a mask, or the trophies of terrorism. At the same time we can see braces, as the attribute of the western society. The tool of rules and necessary beauty. Are these paintings masks and screens – which are hiding the truth – or, are they the truth?

www.barbarasipos.com The compelling pressure to be similar to the beauty ideals is a disease of our time. Barbara Sipos plays with this twisted obsession in her new pictures, where she mixes perfect details of gorgeous women, slightly amending the proportions. This way a distorted mirror has been created which is, actually, the grotesque and disillusioned reality itself. The human weakness which comes from the wishfull thinking of being perfect, like a nocturnal moth, rushes into the light to be burnt for a bit of miracle. Quoting the artist: ’With this technique sometimes pictures are born the effects of which cannot be controlled even by myself.’ Barbara Sipos Füzespatak str. 36-37.
