"Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack, a crack in everything That's how the light gets in." - Leonard Cohen acrylic and yarn on canvas 30 x 40 inches (76 x 101 cm) 1.5" (3.8 cm) deep edge gallery wrapped canvas In creating this artwork I wanted to examine, in a dreamscape field, the contrast in textures between yarn, paint and canvas.To accomplish this, after completing the painting, I punctured a small hole in the canvas and then ripped the canvas all the way across. I then sewed up the tear by hand, using a needle and burgundy coloured yarn. In sewing up the canvas I ensured that the stitches were loose enough to still see the texture of the torn canvas. The painting is wired and ready to hang. It is varnished with a gloss varnish to protect it from UV rays, dirt, dust and fingerprints.
