The Alps (6) - First snow in August Painting

We had just arrived in Matrei, Austria mid August for a hiking holiday in the mountains looking forward to a week of summer sun and clear blue sky. Instead we found that it had snowed over night onto the mountain peaks. While this was a bit frustrating first I was consoled by the view of dim sunlight peeping through dark clouds lightening up the thin coating of snow and offering a very dramatic mountain view that only "bad weather" can create. I quickly captured the view with my camera before it vanished as fast as it had come. It was only now, in March 2020 when filled with the strange mood of fear and uncertainty around the Corona pandemic I accidentially came accross this photograph again. It immediately rang a bell in me in correspondence to this mood inspiring me for this painting creating a feeling of strength and energy. Materials used: Schmincke HORDAM Watercolours (Artist Quality) on ARCHES® mould-made Watercolour paper, 100% cotton, 185 g/m² Format of the painting: 50 x 75 cm (it is actually about 1-2 mm larger on each side so that it can be conveniently mounted behind a passepartout with a 50 x 70 cm window).
