About The Artwork

Sakura branch painting, made with Japanese ink and watercolours on rice paper. Sakura or cherry blossoms are a symbol of spring and fleeting beauty. The Japanese tradition of cherry blossom viewing is popular in many countries. It's very romantic and beautiful. The calligraphy inscription is a Japanese proverb: 花は桜木人は武士 [Hana wa sakuragi, hito wa bushi] which literally means "the best blossom is a cherry blossom, the best man is a warrior" or a samurai. Both samurai and cherry blossoms were admired by people, but had a short and unpredictable destiny. Cherry blossoms could have their petals blown away by the wind, samurai could have his life cut short by military actions. The painting is signed, sealed, wet-mounted on backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. The painting is manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Please note that small creases may form due to the nature of the paper. Colours may differ due to differences in devices.

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
