About The Artwork

Painting on cotton canvas mounted on a frame, no frame is needed as the painting surrounds the entire frame and gives a modern. The work was inspired by the depth of human emotions. I was intrigued to capture the complexity of sadness in a look, exploring the fragility and strength that can coexist in a facial expression. I hope viewers feel an empathetic connection to the portrait, and that they can relate to the subtle but powerful emotions reflected in the sad gaze. I want you to reflect on the beauty and vulnerability of humanity. I chose acrylic as my medium because of its ability to capture strong nuances and textures. The theme of the sad portrait attracted me because of its universality and its ability to evoke empathy. I opted for a realistic style to convey authenticity and depth in the emotions captured in the look.

In recent years he has been working on different series of paintings, between figuration and abstraction, with the main sources of inspiration: mythology, dreams, landscape, and nature in general. In the captivating work of Carlos Villanueva, artistic expression comes to life through a humanist neofiguration that evokes deep and universal emotions. With an expressive technique that uses the palette knife and drag rule, as well as the influence of Pop Art, the artist achieves a masterful balance between figure and background, creating abstract compositions that explore the complexity of the human experience. The human figure, represented with sensitivity and passion, becomes the center of his visual narratives. Each gesture and expression captures the essence of the human condition, inviting the viewer to contemplate the full range of emotions and experiences that define our existence.
