About The Artwork

The Cat Crew was inspired by a home improvement project and a curious cat. We were having our bedroom floor done with porcelain tile. The bags of grout and stacks of tiles were on the patio outside the bedroom door. Of course our tuxedo cat Skeeter climbed up to the top of the bags and watched everything. I took his picture and then developed the painting. I haunted Home Depot for lots of photos as reference material. I would line up the bags and other stuff at different angles and move them around. They must have thought I was some crazy lady. This handsome long haired tuxedo cat sat atop the bags of grout and cement. He was definitely in charge! The rest of the cat crew waited patiently for him to decide if it was time for a nap or time to get busy. This painting was created on stretched canvas with high quality oil paints and canvas. There is a painterly, textured background. The canvas is gallery wrapped with painting continuing around the sides. The depth is 1.5 inches. Wired and ready to hang.

As a former pianist and teacher who transitioned to Art after a strained finger forced me from the concert stage, I can say that the creative spark finds a way to go on. Just let it burn. My Dad, a commercial artist/illustrator, had passed on and left me his supplies. I took his signature (Zuk) a shortened version of the family name (Zukoff) and began my journey. After studying various mediums I entered my first art show and won First Place in Oils. A new career was born! I also studied Advertising Art and Design at SUNY and began doing pen & ink renderings for real estate ads, magazine illustrations and pet portraits. I soon realized that my love for cats was the constant evolving inspiration for most of my work. I particularly enjoy sharing their beauty, mystery and whimsical nature. While my work is realistic, I enjoy adding a bit of humor (realism with a twist). Animals (especially cats) are my favorite subjects and I hope people who see my work are inspired to treat them all with kindness and dignity.
