"THE CHAMÁN´s Trip. Painting

The Chamáns (Shamans) are constant figure present in my work, and in this series Pais Maravilla (Wonder Country) they will have more relevance because thanks to them I have obtained a lot of knowledge about the indigenous mystique and worldview. Regarding the painting process, it took me almost a year to execute “EL VIAJE DEL CHAMÁN” (The Shaman´s trip) because unlike many of my pieces, which I first sketch in digital and then execute them physically, this one I did in the opposite way and I let time and my experiences with the Shamans guide its compositions. As in all my works this piece is painted 100% with natural pigments mixed with synthetic polymers which give it longevity and protect it from the weather and time; It contains overlapping geometric elements, and its composition responds to the hyper-dimensional language present throughout the series. The meaning of this artwork has to do with my own conception of the Trips that shamans undertake to have transcendental experiences, and of the visions that "from my own interpretation" they observe as part of their experience so I represent them through the placement of the characteristic geometric elements of my work and with the specific color palette related to indigenous art. The different overlapped quadrants to create transparencies and the transitions from warm to cold tones suppose the relationship of the material and the intangible to he earthly and spiritual world respectively, but also of the underworld which is one of the three dimensions of the worldview in the mystique of indigenous cultures and which I represent with dark colors, mainly black in the lower part of the artwork. The horizontal and vertical lines in gold and silver colors represent the presence of the different deities that exist in indigenous mythology and the circles with a vertical finish emulate the aura and the stole, which at the same time are the crozier belonging to the highest hierarchy in the community. I decided to apply abstract expressionist quadrant designs mixing the main colors of the artwork and I finished off with gold and magentas, these quadrants break with the minimalist pattern to make the piece more playful. This piece is an original artwork which measures 190 cm x 190 cm x 5cm, the technique is mixed on canvas and is ready to hang.
