Painting: Acrylic, Ink on Wood.
Combining optical drawing and painting, I am interested in creating a way of ‘seeing’ without seeing.
Look closely at the image and before you know it you'll be seeing invisible owls circling around the sleeping figure.
I begin each painting using india ink drawn on gessoed panel to create pulsations and rhythms taken from optical imagery and design. These elements are then encased within a more realistic figurative painting and act as a challenge to perception. They create the illusion of invisibility, so that the viewer can see through and question an otherwise established reality. The result is not so much an alternative fact as it is the desire for a fact. I want to challenge you to a wrestling match with your illusion of certainty, to pin you down with something that might not even be there.
This image is painted on a masonite panel with a two inch select pine backing. It does not need a frame.
