SOLD ONLY AS A PAIR: Ancient Chinese Talismans Feng Shui Energy to attract Happiness and Longevity (It took at least 6 months to produce) The Evolution of Longevity (2019) The Evolution of Happiness (2019) Energised sand on wooden board, with titanium white acrylic. Gallery non-reflective glass. Signed back with pencil by artist (2019) Outside frame size: 78 cm x 70 cm x 2.5 cm The sand was collected from my local beach 'Kwun Yam Wan Beach', near Kwun Yam Temple (built before 1840 and dedicated to Guanshiyin, which means "The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World"), on Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong, a small pirate and fishing village island with no forms of transport. I took the sand home just up the road from the beach to be washed, cleansed, and placed to dry on the rooftop absorbing the natural energies from the sun and moon. The sand was then placed into a large glass jar for safekeeping. A smaller jar was filled with the same sand, which I kept with me for six months. Throughout these six months I left the sand at various shrines in temples around Hong Kong to absorb positive healing energies. To name a selected few: Kwun Yam Temple (Cheung Chau Island) Yuk Hui Temple / Pak Tai Temple (Cheung Chau Island) Che Kung Temple (Ho Chung, Sai Kung, New Territories) Tin Hau Temple (Sai Kung, New Territories) River God Dragon King Shrine (Nam Chung, Luk Kong, New Territories) Wun Cheun Sin Koon Temple (Ping Che, Tai Po Tin Fanling, New Territories) Lin Fa Kung Temple (Tai Hang, Tin Hau, Hong Kong Island) Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple (Kowloon, Hong Kong) Man Mo Temple (Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island) Po Lin Monastery (Big Buddha, Lantau Island) Kwun Yam Monastery (Lantau Island) Kwan Tai Temple, (Tai O Lantau Island) After six months the small glass jar of sand was poured back into the large glass jar to combine the positive energies, positive vibrations and frequencies. On one wooden board I drew 100 talismanic forms of the Chinese characters of Happiness (every character is a different symbol meaning happiness). On the other wooden board I drew 100 talismanic forms of the Chinese characters of Longevity. (every character is a different symbol meaning longevity.) Then I attached the energised sand to each of the 200 characters. Finally, I painted with titanium white acrylic, and framed with a gold boarder, black and gold frame, and non-reflective glass. The two pieces are minimal and contemporary, with very ancient meaning. Both pieces are a meditation, and a reminder of happiness and longevity belong in ones kitchen, living and dinning area. We are what we eat, people cannot survive on dead food. Both pieces have been blessed several times.
