ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by Raphael portraiture this is after his own painting of his fencing master. I know this attribution is disputed but he has a certain convincing look of a fencing master. I use oils for their flexibility. Note this is a "macchia" or sketch giving the basic composition rather than a completely finished painting but I am also inspired by the Tuscan I Macchiaioli who regarded such works as "finished" and collectable in their own right.
