All my paintings are stylized as antiqued and made in the classic technique of old Masters. ▲ Note: The icons have a number of specific features: cracks (“craquelures”); imitation of loss of the “levkas” and the paint layer. A pattern of minute surface cracks (a network of fine cracks) on painted surface. I developed my own unique technique and technology imitation of craquelure, loss of the “levkas” (gesso) and the paint layer. The crack patterns are artificial (handmade). The craquelure varnish was not used for the stylization! The icons are made to appear aged through the use of artificial methods and various techniques. The majority of the Icons, I have created were painted on aged wood, however, at times I have had to resort to the use of boards created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. In particular, this icon board created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. The “kovcheg” (cut-back centre portion) is deep, with two thin connected cut in the reverse side. All Icons are executed in accordance with the canon, iconographic traditions and iconography technique. The traditional iconography basically imitate rare extant icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries. The icons look old-time (old style/16th - 17th – centuries style) and very similar to the original icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries style. Thanks for looking! ☛‼️ ••• Description of the main scene of the Icon ••• In the center of the icon is the figure of Prophet Elijah fed by the raven. Elijah the Prophet is portrayed seated on a stone near the dark cavern against the background of the landscape. The river flow is depicted at his feet, behind his back are high grassy rocky mountains. In his left hand he is holding a thin staff. Fragments of the Prophet Elijah’s life are also depicted in the background. The Appearance of the Angel in the desert, as well as Elijah and Elisha crossing the Jordan on dry land, The Nativity of Elijah, Elijah talks to Elisha, Elijah talks to tsar Ahab and other fragments of the Prophet Elijah’s life. The events of the Prophet’s life are described in the Third and Fourth Books of the Kings. (3 Book 17:1-19; 18; 21: 17-28; 4 Book 1: 3-17; 2: 1-18). A complex multi-figured composition of the icon is set against a hilly landscape, complemented by architectural details. In the left upper corner of the icon is the fiery ascension of Elijah the Prophet. In the right upper corner of the icon is the Paternitas (New Testament Trinity). At the four corners of the icon, on the borders are shown the Our Lady of “Leaping of the Babe”, Our Lady of “Exaction of the Perished People” (“Seeking of the lost”), Holy Virgin of Three Hands and Our Lady of Vladimir. On side borders are the figures of the Saints standing (interceding Saints) in frontal poses. On the left, top-down, are the figures of Archangel Michael, Venerable Sergius of Radonezh and Guardian Angel. On the right, top-down, are the figures of Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious, Saint martyr Anatoliy and Saint Nicholast he Wonderworker. On the lower border of the icon are the half-figures of Saint Grand Prince the Pious Alexander Nevsky dressed in skhimnik clothes (Schemamonk), Most Holy Theotokos “Fire Appearing” (“Fiery Vision” / “Areovindus”) and Reverend Saint Seraphim of Sarov in the medallions. “The fiery ascent of the prophet Elijah” is one of the most popular scenes of prophet’s life. The iconographic plot of the “Ascension of the Prophet Elijah” is based on the biblical text of the IV Book of the Kings, which tells about the last conversation of the Prophet Elijah with his disciple Elisha, his ascension alive (in the flesh) to heaven in a chariot of fire and the transfer of melote to Elisha (outerwear, mantle, cloak) as a symbol of the prophetic gift. According to St. John Chrysostom’s interpretation, Elisha’s acceptance of the miraculous cape is a type of the Eucharist (the most important part of Christian worship is the liturgy, during which the sacrament of communion is performed). The composition of the “Fiery Ascension” is composed in the early Christian period and corresponds with the prototype of “Ascension” and the coming salvation of the human race.
