This painting depicts a hairdresser after her long, multi-coloured hair had been shaved off to raise awareness of human sex trafficking and to provide a monetary gift for The Mustard Tree Foundation’s Rahab Project: restoring hope and belief by identifying and supporting those affected by sexual exploitation. This painting shows the end stages of the public head shave in the hairdresser’s salon. The Gift I and The Gift II depict earlier stages of the process. Here the sitter looks increasingly reflective and slightly emotional, her subtle smile and the warm colours suggest positivity and comfort. The event had become increasingly emotional as fellow hairdressers shed tears over the sitter's sacrificial act. The sitter's faith was a considerable factor in her giving her 'gift', the increased contrast in tone and the warm yellow background suggest the spiritual element of this act. 25% of profits from sales (original and prints) will be donated to The Mustard Tree Foundation’s Rahab Project.

United Kingdom
I love to celebrate through art because it encourages and uplifts. Emphasising love, goodness and beauty is my creative response to life. I create celebratory paintings, mixed media pieces and drawings focusing largely on the human form. Common themes in my art are strength, love, heritage and identity with exploration of spiritual, mental, emotional and social factors. Bold colours, vibrant patterns, symbolism and storytelling are key features of my work. There are often strong Celtic, Native American and African influences in my art reflecting my mixed heritage. I have been a prolific creator all my life and have studied art to postgraduate level in the United Kingdom. I studied at University of the Arts London (Berkshire School of Art & Design) 1999 to 2000, Birmingham City University (U.C.E.) 2000 to 2003 and Reading University 2005 to 2006. I have worked as an artist / illustrator for many years and over that time I have created lots of pieces of interesting and vibrant artwork for a variety of clients: from global publishing houses to individuals on independent commissions. I have a reputation for consistently creating high quality artwork, maintaining positive working relationships, being approachable and very professional. I have a lot of experience working on commissions and I am happy working with a range of subject matter.
