ABOUT THE ARTWORK
THE GLOAMING - AFTER THE SUN AND BEFORE THE DARKNESS. Framed by blackened silhouettes of cloud and space, the sky a brilliant darkening blue. More blue than any piece of cloth or paint that I can recall. Utterly fleeting, gone in an instant, I bear witness to the colour of the impending night sky, the way it interacts and merges with itself and the fading light. Painting layer upon layer of translucent colour, working instinctively and experimentally, a single painting taking months to reveal itself - it’s deepness, vibrations, force and sensibility slowly becoming present. Conversations around campfires, long summer evenings stretching onwards, cloudless winter strolls: thoughts caught in strata of translucent colour creating atmospheric suggestions of time and place. Layer upon layer of translucent colour, working instinctively and experimentally, a single painting can take months to find itself - it’s deepness, vibrations, force and sensibility slowing being revealed.
